About the Laboratory

The Microbial Biomolecules Laboratory (LBM), coordinated by Prof. Dr. Ricardo Pinheiro de Souza Oliveira, is dedicated to the study and development of molecules produced by microorganisms, with applications in the pharmaceutical, food, environmental, and biotechnological fields. We work at the interface of microbiology, bioprocesses, molecular biotechnology and pharmaceutical technology, combining research with applied innovation.

Our infrastructure enables the execution of fermentative processes, purification and characterization of biomolecules, as well as protein production using cell-free systems (cell-free protein synthesis, CFPS). The laboratory also develops nano and microtechnological formulations to enable the in vivo application of bioactive compounds and microorganisms, expanding the therapeutic and functional potential of the molecules studied.

With a focus on bacteriocins, biosurfactants, probiotics, prebiotics, and sustainable bioprocesses based on agro-industrial residues, LBM is consolidating itself as a center of excellence committed to innovation, sustainability, and social impact.
